Genesee County, MI — The Genesee County Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants to fill 11 positions on the Materials Management Planning Committee (MMPC).
The Genesee County Board of Commissioners is required by State Law to appoint a MMPC to prepare a work program followed by the new Genesee County Materials Management Plan (MMP) in coordination with the county’s Designated Planning Agency (DPA), the Genesee County Metropolitan Planning Commission. The initial MMPC appointments will be for 5-year terms. Applicants must meet at least one of the requirements listed below.
The Materials Management Planning Committee shall consist of the following members:
- A representative of a solid waste disposal facility operator that provides service in the planning area
- A representative of a hauler that provides service in the planning area
- A representative of a materials recovery facility operator that provides service in the planning area
- A representative of a compost facility or anaerobic digester operator that provides service in the planning area
- A representative of a waste diversion, reuse, or reduction facility operator that provides service in the planning area
- A representative of an environmental interest group that has members residing in the planning area
- An elected official of the county
- An elected official of a township in the planning area
- An elected official of a city or village in the planning area
- A representative of a business that generates a managed material in the planning area
- A representative of the regional planning agency whose territory includes the planning area
Materials Management Planning Committee responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Direct the DPA in the preparation of the MMP
- Review and approves the DPA work program
- Identify relevant local policies and priorities
- Ensure coordination in the preparation of the MMP
- Advise county and municipalities regarding the MMP
- Ensure the DPA is fulfilling the requirements of Part 115, including the MMP’s content and public participation
- Notify the DPA and applicable parties of any deficiencies in the MMP or the process
- Approve the MMP prior to public comment
- Provide the final level of MMP approval before it is presented for County Approval Agency (CAA) approval
