Genesee County, MI – Genesee County residents who have traveled the I-475 corridor through downtown Flint in recent days may have noticed something missing:

A site for sore eyes is no longer in sight.

The old McDonald Dairy property at 609 Chavez Drive, just west of the freeway, is no more. Thanks to a partnership between the Genesee County Board of Commissioners, the Genesee County Treasurer’s Office and the Genesee County Land Bank, the property has been razed in order to prepare for its future as a permanent recycling and education center for Genesee County.

The dairy was shuttered in 2009 and had fallen into significant disrepair in recent years. Its rebirth as a recycling and education center is part of the Board of Commissioners’ focus on creating healthy, safe and livable communities across the county.

A special thanks to the Genesee County Metropolitan Planning Commission for its role in the project! We will keep you updated on this initiative in the coming months, as plans and timelines are formalized.
