Genesee County, MI — This month, one of our area’s most enduring traditions will celebrate its 175th anniversary: The Genesee County Fair.

For generations, residents and out-of-towners alike have enjoyed the Fair’s unique blend of entertainment, community pride, and tradition. The Fair offers diverse attractions like carnival rides, games, live music, and agricultural exhibits, providing something for everyone.

“I think what’s at the core of the Fair’s longevity is its strong community roots and the dedication of countless volunteers over the years,” said Chris Miller, executive director of the Genesee County Agricultural Society, the organization responsible for the operation of the Fair. “Our ability to adapt and evolve with new generations, while staying true to our agricultural heritage, has a played a significant role.”

The 175th Genesee County Fair will take place August 20-25.

During his time in a leadership role with the Fair, Miller says he’s proud of the growth in community involvement and especially programs aimed at youth.

“These initiatives have not only boosted attendance but also fostered a stronger sense of community and continuity,” he said.

For residents who have never attended the six-day event, Miller says first timers may be surprised by the diverse range of educational exhibits at the Fair, which highlight everything from agricultural advancements to local history.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn something new while enjoying everything else the Fair has to offer,” he said.

And, for the record, it’s a lot of stuff — from live music and pro wrestling, to waterskiing squirrels and daredevil circus acts.

There’s truly something for every single one of the more than 100,000 people who attend the Fair each year. The annual attendance figure is a testament not only to the wide array of attractions, but also the Fair’s commitment to keeping the event affordable.
