Genesee County, MI — The Genesee County Health Department Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program is proud to announce its participation in National Breastfeeding Month this August. This annual celebration aims to raise awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding and to support and empower families in making informed choices about infant feeding.
Breastfeeding provides infants with essential nutrients and antibodies that help protect them against illnesses and promote healthy development. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), breastfeeding can also reduce the risk of certain chronic diseases in mothers, including breast and ovarian cancer.
This year’s theme, “Nourish, Sustain, Thrive,” emphasizes the importance of community support in promoting breastfeeding and celebrates families at all stages of their breastfeeding journeys. The Genesee County Health Department is committed to creating a supportive environment for breastfeeding families and is proud to offer a variety of resources and programs designed to assist families in their breastfeeding journey.
“We are excited to celebrate National Breastfeeding Month and to highlight the important role that breastfeeding plays in the health and well-being of both infants and mothers,” said Lucy Rosenberg, of the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program at the Genesee County Health Department. “Our community is stronger when we support breastfeeding families, and we are committed to providing the resources and support they need.”
