Check out this report in the Flint Journal that outlines the incredible demand that has led to another opportunity for residents to dispose of household hazardous waste:

So many people are lining up for a chance to recycle household hazardous waste like leftover paint and used motor oil that the county is bulking up its capacity to accommodate them.

The county Board of Commissioners on Wednesday, July 24, approved spending $75,000 to add another recycle day event to the 2024 calendar to help alleviate some of the demand.

Each drop-off event typically can accommodate 150 vehicle visits.

During last year’s collection events, approximately 266,947 pounds of waste was collected. Creating these opportunities for residents is in line with Genesee County’s goal of healthy, livable, and safe communities with a structured and organized approach to dealing with materials that pose a risk to landfills, waterways, and community spaces.

We will notify the public once the date of the additional Recycle Day has been finalized.
