Genesee County, MI – At the regular meeting of the Genesee County Board of Commissioners on June 12, 2024, the Board approved a request to enter into negotiations for the sale of two county-owned properties: The Burton Health Clinic (G-3373 S. Saginaw St.) and the Genesee County Administration Building (1101 Beach St. in Flint). The prospective sale of both properties is part of a facility consolidation plan aimed at streamlining operations to ensure long-term financial health of Genesee County.
“As a board, we are tasked with the financial stewardship of our facilities now and into the future,” said James Avery, Chair of the Board of Commissioners. “The sale of these properties is a necessary part of our overall effort to right-size county operations and ultimately focus more resources on programs and services that benefit our residents.”
The county is in the final stages of a renovation of the north tower of the former Citizens Bank Building in Downtown Flint, allowing for the consolidation for four county-owned facilities – including the current administration building (opened in 1969), which requires more than $33 million in long-overdue repairs and renovations.
“As representatives of all residents of Genesee County, we have a responsibility to ensure that any sale of county property is done with the best interests of the public at heart,” Avery said.
The Genesee County Board of Commissioners directs anyone who is interested in learning more about either county-owned property to email Jared Field, Director of Communications, at jfield@geneseecountymi.gov.
