Thanks to heightened solar activity, the Northern Lights may be visible tonight from our own backyard!

The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis, present one of nature’s most spectacular theatrical performances, and you could see it for yourself Friday Night (May 10) at Toboggan Hill (Washburn Road, north of Carpenter Road) right on the Genesee County – Lapeer County line.

The National Space Weather Prediction Center has issued a geomagnetic storm watch through Saturday. Toboggan Hill will be left open tonight if you’re looking for a darker sky area to catch a glimpse.

This luminous phenomenon occurs in the high-latitude regions around the Arctic, painting the night sky with an array of dazzling colors. From vibrant greens to deep purples, the lights dance across the darkness in waves, curtains, or spirals, propelled by solar winds interacting with the Earth’s magnetosphere.

Don’t miss this chance to see one of the great wonders of the universe!
